Frances is finally making land. Gusts are at 90-100 mph, and as of midnight down here in not so sunny Florida, she's finally coming in. I've been keeping an eye on Boudicca's blog to make sure she, her hubby and kids (aka "rolling ball of noise") are all faring well in Palm Beach County. So far, they're doing fine and the eye is expected to make its way to them over the next few hours.
Just a little reminder about good ol' Francis...at last report, her eye was 60 miles wide. It will take 4 hours for the eye to pass from one side to the other! She is still wider than the state of Florida with lots of wind and lots and lots of water. So far, she's holding the record for the LONGEST freaking storm. And I won't even begin to talk about Ivan that is churning his way up...lets just leave it with "oh shit" for right now. (I think that's fairly accurate.)
Now first, your's truly is a very happy camper that she chose the west coast of Florida to live. The number of hurricanes that make it into our little corner of the world is few. However, when they do come in, they like to make themselves known.
The worse part about Frances has been the waiting and the watching and the waiting. And did I mention the waiting?! Yes, it's good that she's "only a category 2" hurricane, however when even "only a 2" is around for over 24 hours dumping rain and wind the entire time...give me a quicky messy one!
We've been debating about what kind of a girl Frances is today between my darling husband, dear friends and family. Here's what we've come up...what do you think?
1. My vote - Frances is a tease
2. My Husband's vote - Frances is a girl whose still in the bathroom (i.e. getting ready).
3. My Dear Hoosier Friend - Charley was a "wham, bam, thank you ma'm" kind of guy. Frances is going to take her time because it's all about her!
Those are your choices. Tonight the fun begins. We've moved everything off of the patio into the house, again. Moved potted plants to safer locations, secured blinds and have our provisions. We're only expecting category 1 winds and lots of rain. Oh and did I mention that a cookout that was scheduled for tomorrow...is still going to take place. So at 4 p.m. yours truly will get to move closer inland for a cookout in the garage. Rapture!
Be safe everyone...be safe.
