Hello friends! Frances has finally left the state of Florida. Good God, I thought that woman would NEVER leave! Let me dazzle you with just a few tidbits about her, as you're probably as Frances-ed out as we are. She was literally the size of TEXAS! At mid-day Saturday, when she was taking her sweet time crossing the state and was only a category 1 hurricane, she was 407 miles wide (east-west) and 417 miles long (north-south) with parts touching past Key West and into Georgia! Somebody pass that girl a SlimFast! And she was moving at a breakneck speed of 4 miles per hour. A toddler in a wagon could have passed her, or the idiot bank robbers on bike in first gear!
Anyways, we are all fine and survived with only minor debris in the yard. We were very lucky! My folks live in Orlando (my Dad works for Disney) and they evacuated to my Grandparents place while they were out of town (good timing!). They made it back to their home yesterday, but I've not gotten a full report if everything is okay. I know Tammi is planning to head back to her home today to check on it as well. Fingers crossed all around.
We went to check on my Great Aunt & Uncle's home as well as our friend Kathy (whose husband passed away). Everyone is fine. Again, just minor debris in the yards. So we got those all cleaned up and done.
I haven't had cabin fever like that since I was in Indiana and got stuck during a winter storm. Holy smokes! I mean, I love my house and I love to nest and be in my house. But by yesterday morning, screw it. We're going out and we're taking the dog with us! At one point the radio (which was carrying the news stations) were saying, "It's Labor Day and a holiday weekend. Unless you need to be outside, please stay indoors with your family." My husband and I haven't had a laugh like that in a long time! Please! People are sick of their families! The last people they want to look at are the faces they've been staring at for the last 4 days! Ah newspeople...they're funny!
So now, back to work. A short week mercifully...and now we watch for Ivan. Let's just hope he doesn't try to be an Ivan the Terrible! My girlfriend from Indy is coming next week and I promised her no hurricanes so we could all go to Busch Gardens for the day. I'd like to wait a couple of weeks before another huricane, thankyouverymuch! But that's me.
If you didn't have your hurricane kit ready before now...you should have it perfected!
Fingers crossed for Bou, Tammi and everyone that things get back to normal quickly. I think the advance warning helped to save a lot of lives. Have a great day everyone!
