Lipstick

I watched this movie on Lifetime last night. I know, Lifetime, the chick channel. But this was different, this was important. The movie is called, “Why I wore lipstick to my mastectomy” and it’s a true story. It’s the story, based upon the same titled book, of Geralyn Lucas who at 27, was diagnosed with breast cancer. (There was no family history or any pre-indicators, and she found it herself while performing a monthly self-breast exam in the shower.)

This was excellent and I could not encourage you more to take 2 hours out of your life to watch this movie. Here’s a brief synopsis;

Sitting in a strip club – the only woman there with her shirt on – Geralyn Lucas tries to blend in. She’s come to make the biggest decision of her life – whether or not to get a mastectomy. Having recently graduated from journalism school and landed her dream job at “20/20”, the last thing 27-year-old Geralyn expects to hear is a breast cancer diagnosis. Trying to find herself, while losing her vibrancy and her looks, Geralyn discovers a story of self-acceptance by relying on her courage, her human and, of course, her red lipstick.

Read the book, watch the movie...talk about it.
